Early Life

Joan of Arc was born in Domrémy, France, in 1412. Her parents were Jacques d'Arc and Isabelle Romée. Joan had four siblings: Jacques, Jean, Catherine, and Mengette. Joan's family was poor, and she worked as a shepherdess from a young age.

In 1429, Joan began to have visions of the Archangel Michael, Saint Margaret, and Saint Catherine. These visions told her that she was to lead the French army to victory over the English. Joan went to the town of Chinon and met with the Dauphin, Charles VII. Charles VII was skeptical of Joan's claims, but he eventually agreed to let her lead the French army.

Military Career

Joan of Arc led the French army to victory at the Battle of Orleans in 1429. This victory was a turning point in the Hundred Years' War, and it helped to pave the way for Charles VII to be crowned King of France.

Joan of Arc continued to lead the French army to victory in several other battles. However, she was captured by the English at the Battle of Compiègne in 1430. The English accused Joan of heresy and witchcraft, and they burned her at the stake in 1431.
